Teacher Externships Program
When will I ever use this (subject) in the “real world”? How many times have young students asked that question of their teachers? Now
The Rhode Island Teacher Externship program places Middle and High School science, technology, engineering and mathematics teachers with sponsor companies for 6-8 week summer work assignments.
Teachers are assigned short-term projects and work under the supervision of a mentor to deliver valuable results for the sponsor.
Teknor Apex recognizes that a well-trained technical workforce is crucial to its continued competitiveness in the marketplace and the central role science and math teachers play...[We] highly recommend this program to other technology driven companies...

Teachers translate the knowledge and experience gained about the application of STEM in an industrial setting, plus their exposure to the company culture and workforce requirements, into meaningful classroom instructional units.
Often, companies and teachers report that they have developed mutual relationships that extend beyond the summer externship, to include student field trips to the company offices, employee engagement with schools and other important partnerships between business and industry.
